Ernie Colon Sierra was a Puerto Rican artist who got his start at Harvey and worked on Richie Rich and Casper the Friendly Ghost as a freelancer for twenty-five years. As such, he was one of the creators who gave us the magic land of Harvey. He did pieces for Warren and independent comics such as “The Vow of the Wizard” (Eerie #34, July 1971), “Dethslaker” (Eerie #37, January 1972), and more cartoony in “The Thought and the Egg” (Hot Stuf’ #1, Summer 1974). For Skywald he drew “The Love Witch” (Psycho #3, May 1971) and “Love Witch And The Battle Of The Living Dead” (Nightmare #6, December 1971) with Marv Wolfman.
When he went to DC in the 1980s he began creating his own titles which were Fantasy titles such as Arak, Son of Thunder #1-12 (September 1981-August 1982) with Roy Thomas and as editor of Arion, Lord of Atlantis (#1-8, November 1982-June 1983). He created Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld #1-12 (Volume 1) (May 1983-April 1984) and did covers for Volume 2 and Special (January 1985-August 1986). The comic was designed to bring in more female readership to heroic fantasy. Ernie did not work on the Volume 3 or on the short-lived revival Sword of Sorcery in 2012.
