Artists of Sword & Sorcery: Ricardo Villamonte

Peruvian artist, Ricardo Villamonte was a member of the Spanish La Floresta studio. Like Berni Wrightson, Villamonte is best known for horror work for DC and Skywald. This horror-influence gave a unique look to the ill-fated Beowulf, Dragonslayer (April/May 1975- February/March 1976). DC had him do “The Warrior” in Weird War Tales #47(July-August 1976) before leaving to do other work. Ricardo Villamonte inked “Man-Wolf” in Marvel Premiere #45-46 (December 1978-February 1979) and other projects for Marvel. Not S&S but related, he also worked on John Carter of Mars, Ka-Zar, Swords of the Swashbucklers, and Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle, usually as an inker.
