Rage Machine Books is getting close to releasing the first issue of DARK WORLDS QUARTERLY.
Our first issue will be available later this month as a FREE PDF download. It will be made available in other formats afterwards including a print edition.
We are very excited about what we have for our premier issue. We have an interview with Donald F. Glut, the writer, motion picture film director, screenwriter about his classic comic series for Gold Key, Doctor Spektor. In celebration of the release of her first motion picture, we have a feature article about the origins of WONDER WOMAN, a look behind the scenes of the strange world of her creator, William Moulton Marston. We will also have a look at the origins of the French Comic book VALERIAN, the inspiration for the upcoming film by Luc Besson
We also have an examination of Keith Laumer’s BOLO stories. His tales of artificially intelligent, semi-autonomous tanks are a favorite among fans of military SF. We have an article outlining an attempt by Amazing Stories Magazine editor Raymond A. Palmer to try to find a successor to Edgar Rice Burroughs. Dimes For Tarzan outlines Palmer’s convoluted and not-so-ethical attempt to keep the Tarzan franchise going after Burroughs’ death.
Issue #1 will also feature a tag-team review of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Volume #2 between authors G. W. Thomas and Jack Mackenzie. Plus it will feature a personal memoir of being a fan of the original DOCTOR WHO. I Was a Teen-Age Whovian will feature contributions from old-school Doctor Who fans from around the globe.
The first issue will also feature a piece about science fiction as social criticism which will include insights from author Daniel Abaraham, one half of the writing duo behind the pen-name James S. A. Corey, author of Leviathan’s Wake and Caliban’s War and currently an executive producer on The Expanse series from Syfy, based on those novels.
The magazine is Canadian made, so we will be highlighting Canada’s 150th birthday with a feature article on Canadian Voices in Science Fiction. The piece will highlight the opinions of Canadian readers of science fiction as well as contributions from R. Graeme Cameron, editor of Polar Borealis Magazine and Hugo, Nebula and Campbell Award winning author Robert J. Sawyer, author of Quantum Night, Red Planet Blues and many other science fiction novels.
