It is with heavy, heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our friend and colleague Derrick Ferguson on April 4th.
Derrick Ferguson was unabashedly a pulp writer. He did not chase trends. He did not even particularly care about sales. He wrote what he wanted to read. From his Dillon novels to his stories about Fortune McCall and Sebastian Red, Bass Reeves and many others, Derrick wrote stories that moved at a quick pace and offered plenty of action.
He was also a very generous human being. He saw other authors, not as his competition, but as his friends, and he was always ready to help out or offer advice when it was needed. There are few authors in the New Pulp field who cannot say that they were helped, inspired or encouraged by Derrick in some fashion or other. Whether you were a beginning author or a seasoned professional, you benefited from knowing Derrick somewhere along the way.
As well as writing for his own blogs and podcasts, Derrick contributed to this blog and he was our first guest on our website’s podcast.
Others have said it and it is worth repeating; the world was better for having had Derrick in it, and it is emptier by far with his passing.
We here at Dark Worlds Quarterly strongly encourage you to visit his Amazon Author page.
What a total shock! I will always remember him for the kindness he showed me when I was first starting to promote myself as an author on Facebook.
