If you missed Part 5…
The 1970s saw Wellman finishing his Sherlock Holmes Versus the War of the Worlds series with his son, Wade, as well as the last of his historical non-fiction books. In 1973, Karl Edward Wagner becgan Carcosa Press to publish Manly’s best work with new illustrations by Lee Brown Coye. (This would lead to Wagner writing his best loved story, “Sticks”.) In the late 1970s, Wellman wrote his first true Sword & Sorcery series about Kardios of Atlantis. The 1980s proved to be a renaissance of new Fantasy with the Silver John novels and new stories for the small press Horror magazines like Stuart David Schiff’s Whispers, Charles l. Grant’s Shadows and the Robert M. Price magazines. Manly passed away on April 5, 1986.
After Manly’s death collections of his work appeared from time to time along with odd pieces found here and there. His best stories were collected in the 2000s with his legacy firmly established in Fantasy & Science Fiction circles.

My own connection to Manly Wade Wellman is small. I wrote Karl Edward Wagner in the late 1980s asking about Mythos stuff. Karl became representative for Manly and his wife, Frances. My fondest memory is Karl telling me how he would visit Frances after Manly’s passing, and share some KFC and whiskey with her.
