In the last segment we focused on comics that were basically movie adaptations. Now we can leave Hollywood behind and look at seven other Sinbad comics that range from Richard Corben’s Heavy Metal serial to a Sword & Planet version from Bluewater. All bets are off as comic creators find something different to do with the traditional tales of the man who took seven incredible journeys.
“New Tales of the Arabian Nights” Heavy Metal Magazine #15-28 (June 1978-July 1979) The thirteen episodes were written by Jan Strnad and drawn by Richard Corben. Later the entire strip was collected in its own graphic novel with an intro by Harlan Ellison, which ironic.
“The Last Voyage of Sinbad” (Warren) Creepy #129 (June 1981) was written by Budd Lewis and drawn by Fred Carrillo.
Sinbad from Malibu Comics produced two series of four issues each.
