The Barbarian and the Line

The Barbarian and the Line belong together. The heroic figure offers the fantastic artist such a pleasure of riches. I remember encountering such sketches for the first time in the Ballantine collections of Frank Frazetta’s work. I later learned there was a long tradition back to older publications of gorgeous line work by Joseph Clement Coll, Sidney Paget, and Harry Clarke. Here are some newer artists (also masters) of the line proving their mettle.
