The 1940s saw Frank Belnkap Long move into new areas as a professional writer. He is moving away from Lovecraft and his Cthulhu Mythos. He saw his first two hard cover books published, The Hounds of Tindalos (1946) with Arkham House and John Carstairs, Plant Detective (1949) with Frederick Fell. 1941 saw him try comics for the first time, but it was 1948’s Adventures into the Unknown that would feel the impact of his work. The first two issues, largely written by Long, were the template all later, more famous comics like those at EC Comics, were based on.
